Adventure Holidays

What exactly are adventure holidays?
For many people, the term "adventure holidays" might imply throwing yourself out of an aeroplane, jumping off a bridge or a white-knuckle ride down wild rapids in a rubber raft. However, at Tucan Travel these are just some of the many activities you can do while on an adventure holiday.
There are generally three key ingredients to an adventure holiday: to be taken out of your comfort zone; travel overseas to a far-off land; meet local people and immerse yourself in how they live their daily lives.
At Tucan Travel we believe that by leaving behind the all-inclusive resorts and instead going somewhere new and doing something completely different on an adventure holiday brings with it a whole new set of rewards. Of course, this does not mean that we have lost sight of the ‘holiday’ element in this equation. Our tours can include time sunning yourself on amazing beaches anywhere in the world, travelling and camping amidst breath-taking scenery seemingly laid on just for you, or a visit to many of the world’s landmark wonders. But it does mean that along the way you will get the chance to experience so much more. Whether it be trekking through the Andes to arrive at the hauntingly beautiful Machu Picchu by the same route as the mysterious Inca that lived there; having a whole new appreciation for the spice bazaars in Morocco after having travelled through the desert on camel back, just as generations of traders did throughout antiquity; or seeing big game and so much other wildlife within Africa’s national parks after having got up close and personal with rare and majestic mountain gorillas on the same holiday. It is experiences such as these that can make your holiday an adventure.
No matter which of the world’s continents you want to visit, an adventure holiday will always take you to into the thick of it. Whether you are travelling on local buses or on Tucan Travel’s own custom-built trucks, staying in comfort hotels or camping in the wild, on an adventure holiday you afforded the rare opportunity to peel back the layers and really understand the culture of a country and meet the people that live there.
And most importantly, you get to do all this together with a group of like-minded people, all eager to enjoy a similar experience. The memories created on any adventure holiday are always magnified when shared with the people who helped create them.
Could I go on an adventure holiday?

Absolutely. Our tours tend to satisfy a broad range of ages and nationalities and Tucan Travel adventures attract all manner of clients, from students through to professionals and retired couples. Many people also come on their own as the beauty of adventure holidays is that everyone has similar interests and you get to meet a bunch of like-minded people, who often become life-long friends.
Being adventurous on holiday doesn’t mean being uncomfortable
Different people looking for an adventure holiday have, shall we say, different ideas of what constitutes comfort. With that in mind we have created different tour styles to cater to whatever appetite for adventure you might have. From travelling in our own coaches and staying at comfort hotels the whole way, right through to swapping between modes of local transport, alongside locals, their luggage and livestock, and staying in a local family’s home or camping well off the beaten track, we have a travel style to suit you.
Adventure holidays can be challenging. This is because you are likely to encounter very different cultures, attitudes and ways of doing things to what you might be used to back home. But these are also exactly the reasons why an adventure holiday can be so rewarding. So with a flexible approach to things such as public services that may not always be worthy of the name and a good sense of humour to cope with eventualities sometimes beyond your control, you are bound to maximise your enjoyment and get the most out of your adventure.
