It is the place to look for guidance on travel documents, health & safety, packing and what to expect from your style of tour. You will also find a list of recommended reading material relevant to your tour. The tour dossier will give you important information specific to your tour and will provide you with a detailed description of the itinerary. The country dossier(s) contain essential information about visas, arrival transfers, spending money & costs, taxes & tips, climate and local food etc. Please be sure to check the latest news section of our website and download a copy of the pre departure information close to your departure date, in case of updates or changes which may affect your plans. The optional excursions guide details all of the optional activities available at each destination along your tour. This will enable you to plan your budget and itinerary accordingly. Joining Hotel Information Airport transfers in joining and departing cities are not included but can be booked through Tucan Travel at an additional cost. Transfer prices are listed on our website. If you have booked a transfer through Tucan Travel you will need to meet the driver at exit gate 3, who will be holding a sign with your name on it. If you would prefer to make your own way to and from your hotel, you may be able to find a shuttle bus to take you to the city centre, but the most common and easiest way is to take a taxi. Go to door 10, queue and buy a ticket, then get a metered taxi. You will have to pay the tolls and a 50 baht surcharge. The price to travel to the Tucan Travel hotel should be about 450 baht depending on traffic, including tolls of 2 x 75 baht. If they refuse to run the meter or do not have one, you must set the price before you begin your journey. Erawan House (our joining hotel) is in a very lively area of town by the Khao San Road and the Grand Palace and in walking distance or a short taxi ride to the shops, restaurants, and bars. The hotel has safe deposit boxes for your use (you will get an itemised receipt). Please leave all of your important documents, money and travellers cheques here when you go out but remember to carry some form of ID and a photocopy of your passport with you. It is advisable not to wear chains or expensive looking watches or jewellery while in major cities. You should also keep your camera concealed when not in use and carry daypacks on your front for extra safety. Arrival in Bangkok
When arriving at Bangkok International Airport we recommend that you obtain some Thai Baht as soon as you arrive. There is an international ATM machine inside the airport, as well as money exchange offices offering a good rate. The rate will always vary slightly depending on where you go, it may be worth changing a small amount of money at the airport for your transport, and then finding a bank or money exchange within the town centre. There are many ATM’s and money exchanges close by to the hotel should you want to change them after checking into the hotel. Bear in mind you will need to have cash for the Local fund payment in US$.
Please note: If you have booked an arrival transfer with us and you are going to be delayed more than two hours, you must advise us of the delay at least 6 hours before arrival. If we are advised in time, we will make every effort to reschedule your transfer and your driver will be asked to wait for two hours after your new expected arrival time. However if we are not made aware of any change, the driver will only wait for two hours after the original scheduled arrival time and after this point it will be up to you to arrange transport to your hotel at your own expense. Joining Your Tour
Day 1 of all our tours is simply an arrival day, with no organised activities, so you will have some free time to relax or see some of the local sights. You should find some local information (e.g. a few good places to eat and drink, do laundry, etc.) on the hotel notice board. Your tour leader will be staying in the hotel and should have put up a welcome note to let you know what room s/he is in. A pre-departure meeting is usually held in the afternoon or early evening of day 1. You will need to bring the following important items to your meeting with the tour leader:
