Update 05 December 2008 Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport has reopened today, with several airlines offering international flights out of the capital. It is likely to be several days before normal services are resumed so it is advisable to keep up-to-date with travel advisory services and news from government authorities.
Very few Tucan Travel clients have been affected by the protest action and Tucan Travel has not cancelled any tours. The next tours departing Bangkok on 12 and 13 December 2008 are expected to run as scheduled.
Update 03 December 2008 Anti-government protestors have withdrawn from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Muang Domestic Airport. The situation appears to be close to resolution. Please monitor your government's travel advisory services for further information if you are attempting to fly in or out of Bangkok in the near future.
Update 28 November 2008 Local contacts in Thailand report that infortunately the situation at the airports in Bangkok has not improved. Both airports remain occupied by anti-government protestors. The Thai Airport Authority has confirmed that Bangkok Don Muang Airport is definitely closed until at least 6pm today, 28 November. Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport will not reopen before tomorrow 29 November at 6pm. It is uncertain when the airports will reopen as protestors insist that they will only leave the airports once the Prime Minister has resigned. The Thai government has declared a temporary state of emergency at these airports.
There are currently no flights arriving or departing from Bangkok. Tucan Travel has a tour that is due to end in Bangkok on 29 Nov and all clients departing the tour there have been advised of the situation. The tour leader is assisting clients to make alternative transport arrangements.
25 November 2008 The international airport in Bangkok has been closed today due to an occupation by anti-government protestors. All departing flights from Suvarnabhumi airport have been cancelled but incoming flights are not yet affected.
There are no Tucan Travel tours starting or finishing in Bangkok until 29 November and therefore no tours or clients have yet been affected by this incident. Tucan Travel hopes that this situation will be rapidly resolved so normal travel can resume as quickly as possible.
