2012: The Year of Adventure
Where will the road take you?

Despite the scope of prediction on the road ahead this year, with everything from uncertainty in the economy to an ancient civilisation foreseeing the end of the world, none of them are particularly rosy. But forget any bleak forecast you may have already heard. We are declaring 2012 the Year of Adventure!
There is no doubt that 2011 was a year of big change in the world, and as we head into the new year there is much that remains uncertain. But in this uncertainty we see opportunity; an opportunity to go on the adventure of a lifetime, wherever in the world that might be.
We have come a long way as a company offering other travellers a genuine travel experience. And this year will see us turn 25, so we are gearing up to make it our biggest and most exciting year yet.
Tucan Travel's Adventure Hot Spots for 2012
There is literally a world of adventure out there, and any attempt to try and identify the best places to go is fraught with risk. However, the following regions are destinations that we have chosen as some example hot spots for 2012, be it because the are is in the news or for no other reason that there is so much to see there and there has never been a better time to visit than now.
Colombia

This beautiful yet still enigmatic corner of South America is in the forefront of many people’s minds at the moment, and as an up-and-coming destination is absolutely bursting with adventure opportunities.
Colombia has endured a difficult history, and for many years travellers have stayed away. However this has all changed, and this amazing country offers adventure travellers everything from high snow-capped mountains to gorgeous white-sand beaches and coastal national parks, with a healthy share of lush, steamy rainforest in between. And if that weren't enough, you are bound to be warmly welcomed by hospitable locals genuinely delighted to see you, everywhere you go.

The Balkans

This under-explored region of Eastern Europe is far too often overlooked by travellers in search of a genuine adventure. From the rugged peaks and stunning bays of Montenegro down to the long, rock and pine covered coastline of Croatia with its hundreds of islands walled cities, to the rich cultural heritage of both Bosnia and Serbia, there is so much to explore in this region as it re emerges from its own troubled history.

Central America

Much has been made of certain readings of the ancient Maya calendar that the world will end this year. Despite the questionable validity of such claims, this fascinating civilisation did leave behind many mysterious and astonishing ruins, deep in a lush jungle setting.
