International Happiness Day!

Today is international happiness day so to mark this, Tucan Travel have put together some of the places that we have travelled to that made us smile. 🙂

Kicking off the list is probably one of the happiest places I have ever visited. Although the small South East Asian country has a troubled past, the locals are the most genuine friendliest people I have ever met and you will always be greeted with a smile. It’s a peaceful country with French colonial influences – one being all the delicious cakes and pastries available! ( I have never eaten so much banana bread in my life- those who think visiting Asia will make you skinny- you’re wrong!) .

Uganda – Africa

For Jess, her absolute favourite country is Uganda.
“It is also the country, or at least, the continent that people associate the least with happiness but these people have so little but know no different. There is nothing like driving through villages and towns and watching the children, so many children, running after the big yellow truck, waving and smiling. Through the noise and the traffic, you can hear their laughter ringing out. Instead of being cooped up inside, the children laugh and play in front of their homes, on the streets, next to their parents small businesses. Happiness oozes out of every corner of the country and you can’t help but get infected by it.”

Torres Del Paine National Park- Patagonia

Our lovely reservations colleague Anneka has recently arrived back from Patagonia and visited the immense Torres del Paine National Park. For her, hiking across the stunning mountain ranges and watching the majestic Andean Condors soaring high in the sky was a truly once in a lifetime moment.

Brazil and Argentina

Julia couldn’t face making the decision between 2 of her favourite places so as I am in good spirits today I will let her pick both.

Brazil: “A tropical paradise with happy people, amazing beaches and caipirinhas equals a happy Julia” Not to mention their infamous Rio Carnvial – we hear you Julia.

Her second spot of smiling is Buenos Aires in Argentina- “steak and wine and a great place to meet people from all over the world (but mainly the steak!!)” Perfect for all the foodies out there!

Bangkok- Thailand
Our design extraordinaire Martin declared Bangkok was the place that brought a smile to his face. Indulging in the wild night life of Koh San Road, he excelled in the exuberance that the buzzing metropolis has to offer- even having a dance off with the tour leader! Martin loved the Thai food and having his first scorpion delicacy will be a memory he won’t forget.

For Alice, India is one of the places where you can’t help but smile. “If you get out of the big cities, the people are so friendly, welcoming and happy, it’s infectious. Despite the poverty and hardships they face in life, they still manage to be happy and have a positive outlook which is inspiring and puts all of your own trivial problems in perspective.”
