Dream trips to plan for the future – Part 1

Wadi Rum - Jordan

If 2020 has taught us anything it’s that no - we don’t have all the time in the world. The start of the new decade was like any other year - families parted ways after Christmas celebrations and travelled home, adventurers looked ahead to all their exciting holiday plans and many were busy assessing how many trips they could squeeze out of annual leave. Those with constant itchy feet looked back on 2019’s adventures and wondered what was next....

What to pack for a trip to Patagonia

Patagonia is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited - in fact I am still longing to return one day! I travelled on the Tucan Travel Patagonia Highlights tour in November 2019 and spent the weeks running up to my holiday gazing at photos of mountains and trying to plan what I should pack. Patagonia has an unforgiving climate, and I read that the weather changes daily (I can confirm - it does!), not to mention the remote locations we...

Stepping Into the Screen – Oscar winning movies whose locations you can visit

The Andes in Patagonia

With the approach of the 92nd Academy Awards, as with every Oscar season, our cinemas have become inundated with some of the year’s greatest achievements in cinema. Stories that inspire awe, wonder and a sense of artistry in all who love the film industry and a vital part of any film that wishes to reach these heights is the setting. So often the most spectacular films capture the very essence of the location in which they are set to such a degree that you gain a familiarity with the...

Earth’s greatest stargazing hotspots

Strlight over a lake in Patagonia, Chile

There aren’t many things more mesmerising than gazing up at the Milky Way during a clear night sky and gaining a greater scope of the unimaginably colossal scale of our solar system. This Saturday, 5th October, we are celebrating the majesty of our night skies in honour of...

An Insider’s View on Patagonia

The wild, untamed landscapes of Patagonia in the most southern tip of South America may seem like a faraway destination. The region, situated between Argentina and Chile is remote. Famous for its vast national parks and jaw-dropping natural wonders, it is a destination to be conquered and explored. Maybe you are itching to discover Patagonia? Or maybe this is the first time the region has crept onto your bucket list? Read our interview with Julia Baulina about an adventure to one of...

The Viedma Glacier in El Chalten

Today we actually walk on a glacier itself. Our choice for this activity is the Viedma glacier at El Chalten. This glacier is the 2nd largest in South America at over 900 sq km in surface area and 150 to 200 m deep.

First off after being dropped on the bank by the boat is a 30 minute walk to the glacier along a landscape of very smooth colourful boulders of reds, oranges, pinks and browns. We are told that only 22 years ago that landscape was covered in ice, that is how fast this glacier...

Living life on the edge, ice climbing

When I came to Patagonia, I expected to wind down after my travels through Antarctica, after what has been a very hectic year of travel. But Patagonia has forced me to sit up and notice her and continued to challenge me physically, dishing up new challenges and stunning vistas that have left me awestruck at the beauty of this planet we live in. I am on a high. I have just spent the morning with my fellow Tucan Travellers ice climbing Viedma Glacier, Argentina’s largest...
