Uyuni Salt Flats, Bolivia
At over ten thousand square kilometres, Bolivia's salt flats are the largest salt flats in the world. Stretching to the horizon, they create a proportion defying vista - a view that is made even more dramatic after it rains and the water settles on top of the salt, creating incredible reflections.
Located as part of the Altiplano in Bolivia and sitting over three and a half thousand metres above sea level, the salt flats were formed by the salt deposits from several prehistoric lakes.
In addition to the salt flats themselves, there are several multi-hued lakes, sulfuric pools, geysers and hot pools, some of which are breeding grounds for flamingos. There are also several hotels to visit made completely out of salt bricks.
A salt flat tour can be combined with a tour travelling south from Peru, or tours travelling through from Brazil, Argentina or Chile
