Inca Trail Trek on Group Tours

Group Inca trail trek to Machu Picchu

Trekking the Inca Trail on Adventure Tours and Overland Tours

Tucan Travel offers more than 90 different group tours which offer the chance to hike the Inca Trail Trek. All group tours which include time to complete the Inca Trail Trek are easily identified by the 'Inca Trail Trek' icon found on the tour maps on this website and in our brochures. If there are no permits available for the Inca Trail Trail Trek or the trail is closed (i.e. in February) the Inca Trail Trek will be substituted for the Lares Trek.

Please note that this deposit is non-refundable.

Inca Trail alternative – Lares Trek

There are restrictions on the allocation of Inca Trail permits and there will be times of the year when permits are not available for when you want to travel. On these occasions you will still be able to trek to Machu Picchu but will follow the scenic Lares Trek as an alternative. There will be no extra cost to do the Lares alternative. See here for more information about Inca Trail permits and trail closures.

If you choose not to do the Inca Trail Trek

If you do not want to complete the Inca Trail Trek you must advise your travel consultant at the time of booking. Instead you will do a train excursion to Machu Picchu instead.

If you choose to opt out of the trek and do the train excursion to Machu Picchu you will have additional free time in Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, where there is plenty to see and do. There are numerous museums, galleries and churches to visit, including magnificent examples of Spanish colonial architecture such as the Convent of Santa Clara, the Cathedral and the San Franciscan Monastery. The masterful Inca stonework of Qorikancha, almost but not-quite obscured by the Spanish church built on top of it, is a must-see. Your tour leader can also help you to organise optional day excursions to the Sacred Valley, the monumental ruins of Sacsayuaman and the Inca citadel at Pisac.

Trekking the Inca Trail on Budget Expeditions

All Budget Expeditions tours to Peru which visit Cuzco have enough time allocated to complete the Inca Trail Trek. This is an optional excursion with an additional cost, and must be booked at the same time you book your Budget Expeditions tour.

Inca Trail alternative – Lares Trek on Budget Expeditions

If no permits are available for the Inca Trail trek at the time you want to travel, you will be offered the Lares Trek alternative. See above for more details.

Customer Reviews

"We completed the Sacred Valley and Inca Trail trip with Tucan. It was a 7 day 6 night trip and all the accommodation and most of the meals were provided in the price. The guides provided were very friendly and very knowledgeable and the 2 guides stayed with the group for the whole trip. The setup of the hike was amazing, the porters were great and prepared delicious meals and prepared all the tents so when you arrive at the destination you could relax. I found the whole trip great value for money and would recommend Tucan to anyone about to take on the Inca Trail."
